Grief Groups for Children: A Safe Place
I run small children’s art based groups for grieving (depending on age) on Saturday afternoons- 4.00- 6.00 pm in San Francisco and Tuesday evenings in Sausalito 5.00- 7.00 pm. (Contact Joanna directly for details- 415 735 1549).
Here, children find hope and comfort through art, play, music, games, and talking and listening. People grieving a loss often feel like no one understands what they’re going through.  No-one’s grief is exactly same. Yet sometimes the best comes from sharing with others who are also grieving.

Professionals workshop!

Inside the Circle: Imagery and Symbols

This workshop introduces therapists to work with color and symbols in art with clients. Through the discussion of the artwork of clients, and making their own art the participants will learn how to recognize shapes and colors in art that will inform their understanding of adult and child clients' current states and psychosocial processes.

As part of this afternoon, participants will learn about meanings of symbolism within Jungian mandala-circle art. As part of the instruction Kellogg's Mari® Mandala Assessment protocol will also be introduced. The MARI is a psychological assessment instrument that uses symbols and colors to reveal a ‘picture” of an individual’s present functioning. The MARI functions as a doorway between the conscious and the unconscious and assesses emotional, psychological and developmental processes. Information about training with this assessment protocol will be provided.

This workshop is for all mental health professionals interested adding to their skills in working with imagery in clinical practice.
