About Me

J. C. Findlay MA MFT, ATR

I am a fully qualified Marriage And Family Therapist with 20 years experience of counseling working in the USA, France and the UK. I am a registered Art Therapist. I have worked in varied settings from schools, to hospitals and in private practice. I am a fluent French speaker having worked in France for over 8 years.

I am adjunct faculty in two Psychology Graduate School in Marriage and Family in San Francisco. I have an active interest and publish internationally regarding the contemporary field of neurobiology (how the brain works) and how it informs psychotherapy practice and art therapy. I have just co-authored a new book , Art Therapy and the Neuroscience of Relationships, Creativity, and Resiliency. New York, NY: Norton.


I train mental health professionals in Art Therapy applications including in the Mari mandala Assessment and parents in Mindfulness Pratices.

I have long-term interest in the mind-body-imagery connection and as a certified yoga instructor I actively include relaxation, breathing, mindfulness techniques, and simple yoga combined with personalized imagery for stress reduction for those who are interested.
